Molière’s classic French comedy comedically examines the dangers that imperil those people who believe only what they choose to believe despite a mountain of evidence to the contrary. The story takes place in the home of the wealthy Monsieur Orgon, where Tartuffe—a fraud and a pious imposter—has insinuated himself. He succeeds magnificently in winning the respect and devotion of the head of the house and then tries to marry his daughter, seduce his wife, and scrounge the deed to the property. Classy, saucy, and witty all at the same time, Tartuffe proves that some plays truly are timeless.

Madame Pernelle criticizes the family for their extravagances and for doubting her son Orgon's faith in his new friend Tartuffe.

Orgon returns from the country and, upon learning from his maid Dorine that his wife has been ill, worriedly asks about Tartuffe.

Orgon announces that he wants his daughter, Mariane, to marry Tartuffe. She is horrified.

Mariane and her lover, Valere, fight over her impending marriage to Tartuffe.

Orgon's son, Damis, threatens to have it out with his father over Tartuffe; Dorine invervenes.

Orgon's wife, Elmire, tries to reason with Tartuffe. He has other plans for her.

Damis sees Tartuffe coming on to Elmire and tells his father. Orgon does not believe him, and banishes his son.

Elmire is furious with Orgon and tells him she will prove that Tartuffe is a fraud. She makes Orgon go under the table so that he can witness Tartuffe in action.

Orgon banishes Tartuffe, but he has been unwise with his secrets, and Tartuffe sends an officer to evict the family from their home.

Tartuffe himself arrives to see Orgon arrested.

However, the King has seen through Tartuffe's charade and restores Orgon's property and jails Tartuffe. Orgon promises Mariane to Valere.
